The New Determinating Factor of 3DTVs

When consumers look for a new HDTV they have specific fields that they tend to look for like resolution, contrast and brightness. However with the new 3DTVs there is a new field that you might not think about, the 3D glasses. It’s true that the format for 3D content is uniform, but the technology to display the content is not. Because there is no uniform standard for 3D glasses, each brand has created their own similar, but very different set of glasses. The four major companies that have released individual glasses are Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and NVIDIA. All of them use the active shutter technique, which requires the lenses to rapidly flash in time with the frames displayed on the screen. Some of the manufacturers like NVIDIA and Sony require an external IR emitter that tells the glasses to change. Samsung has two models available one that requires changing batteries and another that is rechargeable. Panasonic’s pair is considered the most stylish so far, but some also think that the design is flimsy and could break easily. No matter what company you choose to go with all of the glasses will cost you at least $150 to $200 per pair.
