In an attempt to create enough 3D content for when the 3DTVs hit the market, Sony announced today that they will start converting old movies into 3D versions. The company will go through their movie archive and start converting the movies sometime in 2011. “We’ll probably be able to start next fiscal year, if we can convert them into 3D with good effects,” Joe Nakata, a deputy general manager for Sony’s 3D strategy unit. “Companies specializing in conversion processes are starting up in India and the infrastructure is getting prepared.” Some of the movies that are already lined up for the 3D conversion include 2012 and Michael Jackson’s This is It. Sony already announced plans to release the first 3D HDTVs over the summer. The company also announced that they predict that 3D sales will climb to around $15.5 billion by 2013.
