3M is a recognized leader in research and development. Today the company was proud to announce that they received the Alliance to Save Energy’s “Innovative Star of Energy Efficiency” Award. The award was given to them for their Vikuiti dual brightness enhancement films that 3M designed for LCD HDTVs and monitors. The films are a reflective polarizer, multi-layer film that recycles light that is normally absorbed by the polarizer inside the TV. By recycling the light, the screen is ultimately brighter with out the need to increase the amount of power consumed. The end result is a fairly bright TV or monitor that requires less energy than equally bright competitors. “With an ever-increasing global demand for energy, there has never been a greater time to pause and recognize the efforts of those working to advance energy efficiency. We were very impressed with the work that 3M is doing to reduce power consumption in electronic devices such as LCD TVs and desktop monitors,” noted Kateri Callahan, president of the Alliance to Save Energy. “The company’s hard work and commitment to energy efficiency is evident in its DBEF Film and serves as an important model for the electronics industry.”
